What is

FUTSAL

Futsal is a variant of association football played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It can be considered a version of five-a-side football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller, harder ball. The surface, ball, and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity, and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.

  • Footwear – canvas or soft leather training or gymnastic shoes with soles of rubber or a similar material (indoor pitch).

One pitch will be outdoor with synthetic grass, where it is possible to use plastic-stud boots.

More relevant rules:

  • The official F.I.F.A. rules will be applied within local constraints.

  • A match should consist in two parts of 10 minutes each, with 2 minutes break.

  • 3 minutes will be allowed for warm-up before each game.

  • A substitution may be made at any time, whether the ball is in play or not (no limit on number of substitutions).

  • Direct free kick beginning with the sixth accumulated foul by each team (from the second penalty kick mark) – Not used.

  • The goalkeepers: Goalkeepers have only four seconds in which to play the ball, with either their hands or feet, and may not touch it again if it has been deliberately played to them by a teammate without an opponent playing or touching it. Goalkeepers are now also free to play anywhere on the pitch and throw the ball beyond the halfway line, which was not previously permitted.

  • A disqualified player (red card) in one match is not allowed to play in the following match.

Playing time should be suspended when:

  • A ball leaves the field and can’t be recovered quickly;

  • An accident takes place during the game.
